Long overdue renovations post

I was looking at my blog this past evening and realized that it's been quite some time since I've updated my blog on our renovations progress. We are still very busy and pretty much spend all of our time working on the house. We are anxious to have the first floor completed so we can officially unpack and settle in. Tim and I were talking about how the place is slowly turning into a home. We were looking back on what it was several months ago when we first moved in and can't believe how far we have come.

Here are some kitchen pictures, they aren't the best...but you get the idea. When we first moved in, the kitchen was covered in cockroaches. My lovely husband made me "captain in-charge" of cleaning them up (they all were dead...THANK GOD). I still get the chills thinking about it. Luckily, we don't have a pest issue at all, we just got stuck with the clean-up. Before we even did any real work on the kitchen, we lifted up all the cabinets and cleaned inside, above, and below them just to make sure we got all those nasty creatures out!
Besides the bugs the kitchen had some other interesting qualities that were not very nice. It had somewhat new cabinets, ugly tile on the floor, no fridge, and a water heater sitting exposed in the corner. Over the past few months we have put in hardwood floors, enclosed the water heater, put down trim, painted, got a fridge, put up new lighting, and opened up the entry way into the kitchen. So without further delay...here are some pictures.

Our ugly duckling isn't quite so ugly anymore...

Hmmm...where to begin. Well first starters I will tell you that I am not longer living in a cloud of drywall and wood floor dust, and ducking under giant plastic sheets to move from room to room. I did however enjoy that living situation for a lovely week or two.
During my giant blogging hiatus, Timmy and I have been working our normal full-time jobs and then coming "home" and working until late into the evening...usually around 11 or 12 on our endless home improvement projects. We knew going into this that it would be A LOT of work...but low and behold...it's been so much more, but worth it.

Not only did we not have internet until very recently but we barely have had time to shower or do laundry. Yes, it has probably been better that no one has seen us since we bought this place..haha. Anyways, after a few weeks of demolition we moved quickly into the rebuilding stage. I will spare you all the details of each project and get straight to the pictures. We still have so much more to do but thankfully I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Hip Hip Hooray!

Bathroom

Before (Looked worse in person)

Timmy and Bobby had to get creative to get the dumb tub in place.

Let the rebuilding begin!

Almost done!

The bathroom is about 90% done and I will post the complete pictures in a few days once I find Tim's camera. We are still living out of boxes and can barely find our underwear so please be patient with us! :)

Time to relax for five minutes before bed. Night!

We're Closing, We're Not Closing, We're Closing....

Yesterday we closed on our first home! Yay! The closing was originally postponed, but last minuted they got the papers together and we were able to close on schedule.

Tim and I went straight to the house after the closing, had a beer, danced around for a bit...then got down to work. We got a good jump start on the work and got a lot of cleaning done, knocked down a wall, ripped up carpet, baseboards...etc.

I even got my feet squeezed for being such a good sport at the end of the night! I surpringly had fun ripping stuff apart and cleaning stuff out. I didn't even whine one bit! I'm determined to shed my "wendy-whiner" nickname!

I'll post some pictures tomorrow!

Come on March 10th!

March 10th is the day Tim and I have been waiting for...it's hopefully our closing day. We are keeping our fingers crossed and counting down until we are homeowners. With and FHA loan we have already jumped through a few hoops but are optimistic that things will work out in the end. Here is a picture of our soon to be first home. :)

New house

Some of you may already know but Tim and I are in the process of buying our first house in Falls Church, VA. I'll get some pictures up very soon -- I promise! We close on March 10th, that is if everything goes smoothly!
